We do this by leasing or licensing the land, dealing with acquisitions or disposal of land and acting as a referral authority under the Planning & Environment Act (1987).

GMW has over 800 agreements in place for leasing or licensing of GMW land. The range of permitted uses includes commercial caravan parks, recreational licences and agricultural agreements. We also issue licences for commercial business operators on land and waterways.
As a referral authority, GMW assesses the impact any land use and development applications may have on water quality and GMW’s assets and infrastructure.

Landowners may apply for an Occupation Licence and approval to construct and/or keep privately owned structures for recreational purposes on foreshore land owned or managed by GMW.
