Drivers asked to put safety first near GMW work sites

Wednesday 15 December, 2021

Murchison bridge worksGoulburn-Murray Water (GMW) is encouraging people to drive carefully when travelling along Murchison-Goulburn Weir Rd, with upgrades under way at three sites.

The works will improve the barriers on three GMW-owned bridges that cross its channels.

Two of the bridges are expected to be completed before Christmas while the final bridge is likely to be finished mid-January, 2022.

Speed restrictions will be in place at all three sites and some of the works will require one lane to be closed for a short duration.

Traffic controllers on-site will implement these restrictions.

GMW Infrastructure Delivery Services general manager Warren Jose urged drivers to take particular care along these roads.

“As Christmas approaches, we’re expecting the roads to get busier,” he said.

“It is critical that drivers follow the speed restrictions in place - both to keep themselves safe, as well as the workers at the sites.

“We thank nearby residents and road users for their patience during this time.”

The barrier works will make these structures safer and bring them up to standard.

There will be low levels of dust and noise in the area during the works.
