No drawdown for Lake Mulwala this winter

Thursday 29 May, 2025

Lake Mulwala will remain at its operational levels throughout winter this year, with water authorities determining weeds in the lake are currently under control.

The invasive weed Egeria is controlled via exposure to open air, as it does not tolerate being exposed and drying out.

GMW General Manager Water Storage Services Jon McKeown said based on assessments this year, the weed was sufficiently under control to leave the lake at operational levels through the winter period.

“Being able to maintain the lake levels this winter means the community can continue to enjoy an important local amenity,” Mr McKeown said.

Lake Mulwala is formed by Yarrawonga Weir, which GMW operates on behalf of the MDBA.
