Managing flows from Ghow (Kow) Swamp to Box Creek

Update (Thursday, 25 January)

Pre-releases from Ghow (Kow) Swamp have now ceased.

GMW will now resume standard operations of the storage. Releases will be made to meet downstream demands, but these outflows will be significantly lower than recent weeks.

River levels will remain higher than usual in some areas as flows continue to make their way downstream.

 

Update (Monday, 22 January)

Releases from Ghow (Kow) Swamp are being reduced from 1500ML/day to 1000ML/day, with the storage level steadily declining.

Releases will likely continue at this rate for the next few days.

 

Update (Friday, 19 January)

Releases from Ghow (Kow) Swamp are being reduced from 2000ML/day to 1500ML/day, with the level of the swamp having slightly dropped in recent days.

Releases will likely continue at this rate for the next few days.

 

Update (Monday, 15 January)

From 6pm today Monday, 15 Jan GMW will increase flows from 1500ML/day to 2000ML/day from Ghow (Kow) Swamp to make space for increased inflows from Bullock Creek and to start lowering the swamp level.

The releases are not expected to affect downstream landholders and are expected to reduce from Friday (19 Jan) morning.

 

Update (Wednesday, 10 January)

GMW will increase the flows from Ghow (Kow) Swamp to Box Creek from 1000ML/d to 1500ML/d.

Releases were increased to mitigate flooding by creating room in Ghow (Kow) Swamp further inflows.

Landholders between Ghow (Kow) Swamp and Box Creek are advised to move machinery and cattle to higher ground, and ensure that any privately owned levees are of an adequate standard.

Flows will likely continue at a heightened rate for a few days before gradually decreasing
