Spillway crane to be replaced at Cairn Curran

Monday 18 February, 2019

After nearly 60 years in operation the stop log crane at our Cairn Curran storage is set to be replaced.

The spillway at Cairn Curran incorporates a crane for the installation of stop logs to enable maintenance on the floodgates.

“The stop log crane has been in service since the 1960s,” GMW Loddon and Campaspe Storage Manager Dale Farnsworth, said.

“It has now reached the end of its serviceable life and is being replaced with a new crane.”

The new crane is a modernised design in line with current crane and dam infrastructure guidelines.

The work will take approximately three weeks and is scheduled to begin from March 4 2019.

“The work will not impact on the public access to the recreation area at Cairn Curran,” Mr Farnsworth said.

“For public safety though, the spillway and parts of the embankment on either side of the spillway will be closed to the public for the duration of the works.”

The installation works will require the use of large mobile equipment and other heavy vehicles.

Be aware that there may be increased traffic into Cairn Curran Reservoir via Bakers Road as well as the entrance to the recreation area.

The works are forecast to be completed before the end of March.
