Pyramid Hill bridge works extended

Monday 28 June, 2021

Pyramid Hill bridge worksGoulburn-Murray Water (GMW) works on a channel bridge crossing at Pyramid Hill have been extended by a week due to recent wet weather.

The bridge crossing over the No.1 channel along Pyramid-Yarraberb Rd will be closed to traffic in both directions until Saturday, July 10, 2021.

Localised road access will continue to be available to residents.

The alternate route will continue to be signposted during this time and the road will reopen on Saturday, 10 July 2021.

Traffic from the north will be diverted along the Boort-Mitiamo Rd, through Mitiamo onto Bendigo-Pyramid Rd, and then south west onto Echuca-Serpentine Rd.

GMW Infrastructure Delivery Services general manager Warren Jose said the rain had delayed the concrete pouring until Tuesday, June 22.

“It takes two weeks minimum to achieve require concrete strength before it can open to traffic,” he said.

“The crew put in a lot of effort, including weekend work, to get that over the line.

“They have also been continuing to do works around and under the bridge and we expect delivery of the bridge rail on Monday, June 28.

“I’m pleased with the progress. If not for the rain, works would have been on target.”

Mr Jose said local services had been notified to ensure residents would not be impacted during the road closure.

“Please remember to take extra care when using these roads, as there will be increased traffic and heavy vehicles in the area,” he said.

The upgrade and maintenance works, which started on June 6, are part of GMW’s $8 million winter works program, which sees vital maintenance and upgrades take place across the water delivery network during the irrigation shutdown.
