Maintenance works on Tullaroop spillway road bridge

Wednesday 27 January, 2021

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) will undertake maintenance on the Tullaroop Reservoir spillway road bridge from 1 February 2021, with works expected to continue to April 2021.

The works will include replacement of the support bearings and re-painting of the bridge, and are expected to take 11 weeks, depending on weather conditions.

During this time there will be reduced speed limits over the spillway bridge and there will be periods of up to two days when the bridge will be closed to all road users, including emergency services. During these closures, an alternate route will be signposted.

For visitors to the storage, there will be no change to public access to the embankment if accessed from the west. Access from the east will not be possible due to the bridge works.

GMW General Manager Infrastructure Delivery Services Warren Jose said the works are important to maintain the operation and safety of the bridge, and there will be some additional noise and dust during that period.

“We are committed to working with local residents to minimise the impacts of the work on them and on visitors to Tullaroop Reservoir,” Mr Jose said.

“All works will be conducted within Environment Protection Authority guidelines. We thank nearby residents and road users for their patience during this time, and ask that you observe signage and speed limits for the safety of our staff working in the area.”

The worksite will also include scaffolding with an encapsulated air-conditioning system to ensure the old paint is contained and removed in a safe manner with no risk to the environment and workers.

All GMW staff and contractors will adhere to current government COVIDSafe guidelines while undertaking the works.

Tullaroop Reservoir stores water to supply to irrigated properties along the Tullaroop Creek and Loddon River. Camping, swimming and water skiing are not permitted at the reservoir, however boating and fishing is allowed and there are public picnic and toilet facilities available.
