Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) is advising the public a water speed restriction is now in place at Greens Lake near Corop to ensure the safety of water users.

GMW Water Delivery Services general manager Warren Blyth said the blanket five-knot speed limit would be enforced to stop high-speed boating and protect recreational boat operators and passengers from potential injury or damage to boats.

“With limited inflows, Greens Lake levels have remained static throughout winter and are creating inadequate depths and underwater hazards for boating,” he said.

Mr Blyth said the safety rule applied to the whole lake, with the exception of the prohibited vessel zone near the pump house at the northern end of the lake.

Greens Lake is sitting at 20.53 per cent capacity – which is inadequate to meet the 2m constant depth to enable safe high speed boating

Greens Lake remains open to camping and passive recreation, including angling and lowspeed boating such as canoeing and kayaking, and toilets and shower facilities are available.

Visitors to Greens Lake are also required to take their rubbish with them as part of GMW’s ‘carry-in, carry-out’ policy, aimed at stopping illegal dumping of rubbish and keeping the lake area safe and clean.
