Bridge works on Murchison-Goulburn Weir Road

Thursday 19 November, 2020

Earthworks near a number of bridges crossing Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) channels south of Murchison will take place this month, and are expected to be completed by Christmas.

The earthworks, at three locations along a three kilometre stretch of Murchison-Goulburn Weir Rd, are in preparation for barrier upgrade works that will take place early next year.

Speed restrictions will be in place at all three sites and some of the works will require one lane to be closed for a short duration, which will be implemented by traffic controllers on site.

There will be low levels of dust and noise in the area from these works, and nearby residents have been notified.

GMW Manager Infrastructure Delivery Services Warren Jose said the works are a result of bridge condition assessments conducted by GMW.

“We identified that bridges across these channels were in need of an upgrade – the barrier works next year will make these structures safer and bring them up to standard,” Mr Jose said.

“Thank you to nearby residents and road users for your patience during this time. We ask that you observe signage and speed limits for the safety of our staff working in the area.”
