Blue-green algae warnings removed

Friday 24 June, 2022

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) has removed the blue-green algae warnings for Laanecoorie Reservoir and Hepburns Lagoon following a significant decline in algae levels.

The Hepburns Lagoon warning was in place for 549 days, with GMW initially issuing it in December 2020.

This is the second longest a warning has stood at Hepburns Lagoon, behind a previous warning GMW issued in 2017 that lasted for 609 days.

GMW issued the warning at Laanecoorie Reservoir in May 2022. It remained in place for 43 days.

GMW will continue to undertake water quality monitoring and if blue‑green algae reach levels deemed unsafe by national health guidelines, a warning will be issued.
