Lock 11 at Mildura Weir will close for preventative maintenance for two to three weeks in July and August.
The lock comprises of four gates, and as a precaution Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) will conduct an inspection on lock gates three and four, after urgent repairs to gate two in March identified the need for further preventative maintenance.
GMW Head of Bulkwater Operations Martina Cusack said gates three and four would be inspected and any identified maintenance works will be undertaken.
“This work will involve the complete removal of the gates,” she said.
“The work has been scheduled for July following the school holidays – it is typically a quiet time of year, with low houseboat activity, and is most suitable for a lock closure.
“This means there will be as little impact as possible on water and houseboat users. We have informed local houseboat operators of the lock closures.”
The last lockage will be at 4.30pm on Sunday July 22, and works will commence from Monday July 23.
The lock will reopen on Saturday August 11 2018, or earlier if the works are completed earlier.
The upstream weir pool will not be affected.
If any houseboat owners or visitors to the area would like more information on the lock closure, please phone GMW on 1800 013 357.
