Working together to shape the future of pumped districts

Friday 17 October, 2025

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) is encouraging customers and community members to be involved in planning the future of GMW’s pumped irrigation districts.

GMW is developing a future services strategy for the Nyah, Tresco and Woorinen districts where land and water use has changed significantly over the years.

The districts are also facing challenges associated with aging water infrastructure.

The strategy will cover how each district is considered most likely to progress over the next five to 30 years and the water infrastructure and service requirements for these future scenarios.

GMW customers, residents, property owners, businesses and organisations are invited to work with GMW on the strategy at two community workshops in November and February.

GMW General Manager Strategy and Services Planning Steven Abbott said the workshops will help shape decisions about future infrastructure investments and service levels for the districts.

“This is an opportunity to have a real say in the future of the region, and we’re considering all ideas when it comes to developing this strategy,” Mr Abbott said.

“The November workshop will provide information about the districts and discuss what’s important when it comes to water delivery and planning for the future.

“This workshop will focus on exploring community perspectives on current conditions, opportunities and future service needs. The discussion and ideas will help to define what the options are for the future services.

“The February workshop is where we’ll discuss GMW’s analysis of the future options and seek feedback on a possible way forward for these services.

“We’re eager to hear from everyone about what’s important to their water future in the districts.”

Everyone is welcome to attend and contribute to the two workshops in Swan Hill at the Swan Hill Club on McCallum Street:

• Session 1: Information and Ideas focused workshop, 10am to 1pm, Thursday the 13 November 2025.

• Session 2: Options and Solutions focused workshop, 10am to 1pm, Thursday 26 February 2026.

GMW is partnering with Fifteen50 and JumpLeads for the development of the strategy and the workshops.

Individuals can find out more information about the strategy, and register to attend the workshops, on GMW’s dedicated engagement platform: yoursay.gmwater.com.au/pumped-irrigation-FSS.

The link above also includes information about how individuals can provide feedback if they can’t attend the workshops.

In addition to wide-spread community engagement, GMW’s Pumped Districts Customer Committee will play a critical role in guiding the future services strategy process and implementation.

The strategy is aimed to be finalised by May 2026.
