Emergency services have urged GMW to close Greens Lake based on public safety concerns following several unsafe situations that had occurred at the lake in the lead-up to the first closure in 2014.
GMW Water Delivery Services general manager Warren Blyth said closing the lake for this period was a matter of public safety.
“The expert advice from emergency services continues to be that we shut Greens Lake during the New Year’s holiday period,” Mr Blyth said.
“The lake is in quite a rural location, so if an incident occurs emergency respondents are not always nearby to help.
“Closing the lake is therefore the best way to avoid any tragedies occurring during this time.”
Greens Lake at Corop will be closed from 12pm (noon) on Friday 29 December 2023 and reopen at 10am on Monday 1 January 2024.
Members of the public who are camping at Greens Lake before the closure must remove their camps before leaving the area.
