One of Cairn Curran Reservoir’s frequently used recreation areas is being temporarily closed to allow for various works to be completed.
Picnic Point Recreation Area, located on the western side of the reservoir off Boundary Road, will be closed from Monday, 20 May through to Friday, 14 June depending on weather conditions.
The closure will enable the construction of an all-abilities amenity toilet block, and for maintenance works on the boat ramp and picnic shelter to be completed.
Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) Storage Operations south manager Paul Beard said the works were good news for people who frequent the location.
“Picnic Point is a popular spot for people going boating and fishing,” he said.
“Our vehicle monitoring data shows we get about 20,000 visitors to Picnic Point each year, so it is great we have the opportunity to improve the facilities there.
The works are being jointly funded by GMW, the Victorian Fisheries Authority, and Better Boating Victoria.
Mr Beard said the new amenities would help attract new visitors to the recreation area.
“Cairn Curran is a fantastic place to visit, and we want to ensure it can be enjoyed by everyone,” Mr Beard said.
“These works at Picnic Point add to the accessible amenities on the eastern side of the Cairn Curran Reservoir at Woolshed Bay.”
Signage will be placed around Picnic Point informing people of its closure.
“We have timed the works, so they do not coincide with a time of high use and cause minimum inconvenience,” Mr Beard said.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.”
