A popular recreation area at Lake Eppalock has reopened to the public for the first time since the October 2022 floods.
Lake Eppalock Spillway Reserve was closed after its road network was damaged due to significant flows that passed over the lake’s primary and secondary spillways during the floods.
The flows from the secondary spillway also meant large amounts of rock and sediment were carried down to the Campaspe River. Heavy machinery was required to remove this material, causing further damage to the roads.
GMW Storage Operations South manager Paul Beard said extensive remediation works needed to be undertaken before the reserve could reopen to the public.
“In addition to general clean-up of the area, we needed to repair more than 700 metres of road as well as a turning area that was more than 300 metres squared,” he said.
“Pleasingly, the works have been completed to a very high standard and with minimal impact on nearby vegetation.”
The repairs were funded through a flood recovery grant from the Victorian Government.
“We appreciate people’s patience and cooperation during the works,” Mr Beard said.
“We are delighted to have the Spillway Reserve open once more for the public to enjoy.”
