Use your knowledge and experience to make a difference to water
services in
your region
Becoming a WSC member and the WSC
Appointment Process
In your role as a WSC
member you can use you knowledge and experience to help shape G-MW's
operations
in your region.
All members of G-MW's Water Services Committees are directly appointed
by
the Board of G-MW and usually for a term of 3 years. Each year a number
of
positions will come up for reappointment and local individuals are
welcome to
apply to fill a position.
Who can join a WSC?
Water Services Committee's are made up of 8-10 representatives from an
Irrigation Area, with some appointments from specific localities within
the
area.
To be appointed to a WSC you must
- be a resident of the local
area but you do not need to be a G-MW customer.
- be proposed and seconded by
a G-MW customer resident in the local area.
What's involved?
In joining a WSC you are making a commitment
to provide advice to G-MW on matters relevant to G-MW's water services
in your
Area - it's an important role!
You will also be a contact for local customers who may want to build
their
understanding or express their views on current operations and policy
matters
To help you fulfil this commitment your Committee will have access to
support from your local G-MW Operations Area team and through them
access to
the resources of G-MW.
G-MW's WSCs meet monthly and meetings can run for several hours.
Previous
meeting minutes, an agenda and any other relevant briefing materials
will be
provided to you in advance and for discussion at the meeting.
There are also several WSC Forums and
quarterly Chairs and Deputies meetings throughout the year.
G-MW's WSCs are recognised as leaders in their region and for this
reason a
range of Victorian and Commonwealth Government departments and Agencies
may
seek to access to the Committee's knowledge and expertise to
inform their policy
development. G-MW works in partnership with these Agencies to coordinate
these
requests.
WSC members are required to sign and
adhere to the code of conduct and charter.
How do I become a WSC member?
Contact your local Area Manager and WSC Chair to express your interest
either by phone or through the "contact your WSC" online form. They will
then
further explain the process to you.
Appointment Process
Look out for ads calling for
nominations - Each year, G-MW calls for nominations of
individuals within
defined irrigation areas who would like to be appointed to the WSC
in their local area. The advertisements appear on our website and
in
local papers around May.
If the number of nominations received for a WSC
exceeds the number of committee vacancies, an election procedure may be
used to
reduce the number of nominations to the number of positions
available.
The election procedure is undertaken by postal ballot within the local
area.
At the end of the nominations process, the G-MW Board considers all
nominations for vacancies and appoints suitable candidates to the
committees.
The final step in your appointment is to ensure you have completed a
declaration of interests and an acknowledgement of compliance with the
WSC
Charter and Code of Conduct. These documents are available on the
G-MW
website.
Following appointments to the committees, the Board will conduct
interviews
to appoint committee Chairs on advice from the committees.
For more information contact G-MW through the Contact Us form or call your local
area
office.
