Water Trading and 2010/11 Ballot

Will there be a ballot this year?

Yes, it is anticipated that there will be large volumes of applications to trade water out of the irrigation areas so a ballot will be required. Applicants are reminded that the ballot only determines the order for processing  applications it doesn't determine whether they are successful

When can I submit my application?

Any applications for water share transfers for the 2010/2011 season can be submitted from Monday 21 June to Friday 9 July. All applications submitted during this period will be deemed to have been received on the same date.

Any application, regardless of whether it is a trade out of an irrigation area (and subject to the 4% limit) or a transfer to another party within irrigation district, or has an exemption to the 4% will be included in the ballot if it is submitted during this period.

If you submit you application after the ballot it will be processed once all ballot applications have been processed..

Will the ballot rules be the same?

Most rules are unchanged but there are two key changes

  • We have extended the application period from 2 weeks to 3 weeks to give people more time to submit applications.
  • Ballot applications that are not successful can not be re-submitted after the ballot. A new application form will be required if customers wish to relodge an applications after the ballot. This change will allow for the introduction of an independent audit of ballot processing to verify all applications were processed in ballot order..
