Rationing Of Supplies

In years of high seasonal allocation and high demand (eg 1994/95), much of the channel system does not have the capacity to deliver the volume of water available in the storages. Individual channels or the whole system may be affected.

It is generally not worth the cost of increasing channel size to overcome this problem. Supplies are therefore rationed to ensure each irrigator receives a reasonable share of the limited channel capacity. Rations are specified as a proportion of water right in a given number of days, and are only applied when absolutely necessary.
