Traineeships typically involve a three-way partnership between a Registered Training Organisation, Employer and Host-Employer. The Employer is usually a Group Training Company, and the Host-Employer a water authority or organisation associated with the water industry. (Note: In some cases a Host-Employer is not involved.) A formal Training Contract between all parties is entered into prior to the commencement of training via an Australian Apprenticeship Centre.
As a Registered Training Organisation Training Services is able to provide training and assessment for trainees working with water authorities and, in some cases other companies responsible for delivering services associated with the water industry. Trainees are typically enrolled in Certificate II or III in Water Industry Operations with individualised courses based on units taken from the Water Industry Training Package. In addition, a small number of traineeships are available for new water industry workers in Business & Civil Construction (Certificate II and/or III)
The number of funded Traineeships available each year is determined by the Department of Education and Training (DE&T). Training Services like many Registered Training Organisations receives an allocation from DE&T each year. The total number of traineeships available specifically for the Water Industry is relatively small compared to some industries and funded positions are generally filled by the middle of the year. Employers may also choose to employ a trainee and pay for the training on a fee-for-service basis.
