Drains Management Research and Investigation

Goulburn-Murray Water have conducted a project that investigated the effectiveness of inline wetlands in reducing nutrient loads in drains. Wetland features for nutrient stripping are also being incorporated into the design of new drains.

Goulburn-Murray Water is also working towards developing a framework to integrate management of subsurface drainage salt disposal and the operation of irrigation channels and surface drains. The aim is to maximise salt disposal into channels and drains but minimise the outfall of salt to waterways, by optimising scheduling of salt disposal with demand for channel and drainage water.
