Yea River

The Yea River has been identified by the Victorian Government as a priority, flow stressed, unregulated stream requiring preparation of a Stream Flow Management Plan (SFMP) to balance the sharing of streamflows for all water users.

High demand for water for human uses during periods of low stream low, generally over the Summer and Autumn periods has led to the need to manage water extraction to ensure equitable access for all users, including the environment.

A Water Supply Protection Area (WSPA) has been declared, which means that all permanent trading within the declared area is suspended until a SFMP is completed. In developing the management plan environmental issues and water user issues will be considered by a ministerial appointed Consultative Committee.

For more information on the Yea River catchment and its social, economic and environmental assets refer to the Yea River Flow Management Plan Fact Sheet attachment.
