Lake Mokoan Diverters Pipeline Update Issued

Wednesday 25 June, 2008

In its latest newsletter to Lake Mokoan customers, Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) has updated the construction timetable for the diverters' pipeline, outlined the new and much improved supply arrangements for Thoona residents and details the design of the pump station and the domestic and stock outlets.

G-MW Managing Director David Stewart said the newsletter was part of an ongoing program to keep customers informed of the Project's progress and provided an opportunity for customers to discuss aspects of the project with the Project team.

In a new development, the Project has agreed to provide funding to support improved water supply arrangements for the nearly 20 Thoona and District domestic and stock water supply customers.

"Thoona customers will now have year round access and improved water quality through the construction of a more efficient, piped D&S system. The new system replaces the existing open channel and creek delivery system that due to high water losses, has only been able to operate infrequently in the past" said Mr Stewart.

G-MW expects commissioning of the Lake Mokoan Diverters Pipeline to take place in January 2009. This is later than initially anticipated but is a direct result of a range of factors including design finalisation and tendering, availability of key technical staff, and the need to work through a range of associated heritage, power supply and fire suppression design issues, that must be addressed and resolved prior to construction.

"This is a big project and we want to ensure the needs of our customers are met in the best possible way while we also ensure we satisfy the range of other important stakeholder concerns," said Mr Stewart.

To avoid any uncertainty for customers G-MW has committed to continuing existing delivery arrangements including the use of Lake Mokoan during the 2008/09 season. G-MW is also considering all possible means of expediting completion of key components of the system.

The newsletter includes diagrams of the proposed pumpstation for the Lake Mokoan Diverters Pipeline as well as the individual stock and domestic supply outlets.

"It's an opportunity for customers to get an idea of the pumps and outlets we intend to install," said Mr Stewart.

Copies of the newsletters will be mailed to all Lake Mokoan diversion customers and is available from www.lakemokoan.com.
