G-MW Welcomes 2008/09 Water Service Committees
G-MW Chairman Stephen Mills has extended a welcome to all members of G-MW's customer committees at the first meeting of G-MW's 2008/09 Water Service Committee (WSC) Leadership group in Tatura today.
According to G-MW Chairman Stephen Mills, G-MW has more than 100 customers involved in its 12 WSCs, 10 Catchment Committees that represent the six irrigation areas, 4 water districts, flood protection district, groundwater areas and customers serviced by unregulated streams and in the upper catchments.
"Our Water Service Committees provide a vital link between G-MW and our customers - and with so much change underway and ongoing drought its vital we work together to determine the future for irrigation in the region and our communities," said Mr Mills.
Earlier this year, G-MW called for nominations for the committees representing the six irrigation areas. Where there were more nominees than places on the 2008/09 Committees, G-MW conducted a postal vote allowing local customers to elect the candidates. Elections recently took place in the Central Goulburn, Murray Valley, and Pyramid-Boort irrigation areas. All committees subsequently elected a chair and deputy chair, and they make up the WSC Leadership Group.
Mr Mills said the appointment of 2 new faces in the Central Goulburn and Murray Valley Areas is an important step in ensuring the ongoing regeneration of the Committees.
"In these challenging times it's terrific to see a mix of experience, expertise and industry types represented on the Committees," said Mr Mills.
The new representatives are Kevin Whatman in Murray Valley and Kevin Fitsimmons in Central Goulburn.
Mr Mills also acknowledged the time and effort that WSC members give on behalf of their fellow irrigators. Last year G-MW staff attended more than 100 WSC meetings, some were meetings with individual committees others involved a range of committees or the Leadership Group (Chairs and Deputy Chairs).
"On every occasion there has been very informed discussion about a wide range of issues within the industry. Our WSC members also field queries from the wider customer base - the Board and management of G-MW are very grateful for their ongoing enthusiasm and commitment," said Mr Mills.
A full list of WSC representatives will be available shortly from the G-MW website at www.g-mwater.com.au.
