G-MW Media Briefing, New season outlook and local operating plans

Thursday 14 August, 2008
August 15 marks the traditional start date for the irrigation season in northern Victoria.

In response to the extremely dry conditions G-MW will implement 17 operating plans for individual regions within G-MW's irrigation areas. The plans aim to enable operation of the system to deliver essential needs to towns, supply and delivery of stock and domestic water needs and provide access to carryover for the period leading up to the announcement of the first allocation.

Local media are invited to a briefing session that will include briefings on:

  • The revised current season outlook and allocations as issued at 10 am Friday 15th
  • Outline of the operating plans, why G-MW taking this approach and how G-MW will update and communicate the plans across the season.
  • Water trading update, including dry season trading rules and activity so far this season.

G-MW's Executive Managers Graeme Hannan (Planning and Environment), Ian Moorhouse (Water Delivery Services) and Garry Smith (Strategy and Stakeholder Affairs) will deliver short briefings and will be available for interviews following the session.
