G-MW tests community telephone alert system for Loch Garry Flood Protection District

Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) will conduct a full-scale trial of the Community Telephone Alert System for Loch Garry Flood Protection District property owners on Friday 28 September. As part of the trial, Loch Garry Flood Protection District property owners will receive a pre-recorded test message on their nominated telephone service.

According to G-MW Managing Director Russell Cooper, the new flood alert system is a joint initiative with Greater Shepparton City Council and follows the signing of a Flood Warning Service Charter with the Council and other key stakeholders last September.

“The system rapidly delivers tailored information to our customers, keeping them informed and allowing us to more effectively fulfill our responsibilities during flood events on the Goulburn River,” said Mr Cooper.

This trial follows the successful trial of the Shepparton-Mooroopna Community Telephone Alerting System by Greater Shepparton City Council where 550 potentially flood affected property owners and businesses were contacted on their home phone or mobile number.

The system uses a web based message delivery system to send flood-related information from G-MW to landline or mobile telephone numbers nominated by registered property owners. The flood information will vary depending on whether the flood waters are rising or receding.

For further information about the trial and the alert system contact G-MW’s Shepparton office on 5832 9900.
