Ovens and King Regulated customers to have their say regarding trade in their area

Thursday 19 January, 2012

Customers within the Ovens River and King River basins have the opportunity to provide their feedback on a review of the water trading rules for the Ovens and King systems.

Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW), in conjunction with the Department of Sustainability and Environment and the North East Catchment Management Authority, has recently reviewed a number of options to help liberalise water trading within the region. The review was undertaken following a request from the local G-MW customer committee, the Ovens/King Surface Water Diversion Catchment Committee.

G-MW Acting Manager Water Resources, Dr Mark Bailey said that prior to Christmas, customers within the Ovens and King systems were given the opportunity to provide feedback on the discussion paper which outlines the options, issues and recommendations.

"At the request of the local G-MW customer committee, customers were mailed the recommendations and provided with a feedback form," said Dr Bailey.

The customer committee would like to take into consideration feedback from the wider community prior to responding to the recommendations.

"This is a great opportunity for customers to have their say regarding the rules that affect their ability to trade water to neighbours and other water users" Dr Bailey added.

Customers are able to view the full discussion paper at www.g-mwater.com.au/customer-services/water-trading prior to providing feedback before 5pm, Friday 27 January 2012.

For more information on the review please contact Daniel Lovell at G-MW on 03 5826 3730.
