Water deliveries within the gravity irrigation areas for the current 2011/12 season have now exceeded the total deliveries for the entire 2010/11 season.
G-MW Manager, Modernised Irrigation Business, Kevin Preece said that drier and warmer weather conditions and large volumes of water available for customer use has resulted in large increases in water delivery since the start of the irrigation season.
"Deliveries within the six gravity irrigation areas have increased significantly since the commencement of the irrigation season on 15 August and have now exceeded the deliveries made by G-MW for the entire 2010/11 irrigation season," Mr Preece said.
"Deliveries as at Friday 9 December for the six gravity irrigation areas was 488,418 megalitres which equates to 101.2% of the total deliveries for the entire 2010/11 season and represents approximately 40% of all high-reliability water shares held by customers in the six Irrigation Areas," Mr Preece added.
Customers are also holding significant volumes of water in their allocation bank accounts. The total volume held by customers for use, trade or carryover in the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District is over 1,900,000 megalitres.
"Moving into summer and into 2012, we are expecting these figures to increase and strong demand to continue for water delivery," said Mr Preece.
Customers are able to order water 24 hours a day / 7 days a week (including over the holiday period). Planners are available 24/7 via WaterLINE online or by phone 1300 469 469 for all areas except the Torrumbarry Irrigation Area who have planners available between 7am-11pm only.
Stay safe this summer, don't enter or play in irrigation channels.
