Temporary Closure of Recreation Reserves at Laanecoorie and Eppalock

Tuesday 18 January, 2011

As a result of the recent flood events at Laanecoorie Reservoir and Lake Eppalock, damage has occurred to Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) recreation areas below the spillways at both sites, which has required their temporary closure to all vehicles.

G-MW will be carrying out repairs to recreation areas over the coming weeks and access will be reinstated when it is safe for vehicles to enter.

Visitors should also be aware that a number of storage access roads have been damaged by heavy rain and flooding and visitors to all storages should take notice of any road closures.

A number of storages will also have floating flood debris which can be a hazard for high speed boating.

"G-MW advises boat operators to wear personal floatation devices, maintain a lookout for hazards at all times and to use only designated boat ramps, and of course never swim or operate a boat while under the influence of alcohol," said Mr Shane McGrath, Acting Managing Director of G-MW.

"Some temporary 5 knot speed restrictions may be in place for some water storages as floating debris resulting from the recent rains creates a danger for high speed vessel operation.

"Any changes to local boating restrictions will be clearly signposted at boat ramps and around the storages. We encourage boat users to make themselves familiar with storage specific vessel operating requirements," Mr McGrath said.
