Loddon Highlands WSPA groundwater customers receive maximum allocation

Thursday 15 September, 2011

Goulburn Murray Water (G-MW) today announced an annual groundwater allocation of 100% of entitlement for all eight zones of the Loddon Highlands Water Supply Protection Area (WSPA) for the 2011/12 season.

G-MW Acting General Manager Water Services, Graeme Hannan said that this is the first time Loddon Highlands WSPA customers have received maximum allocation since the 2005/06 season and it is good news for the more than 160 customers who rely on groundwater for irrigation, commercial operations and urban supply.

"Low groundwater use and increased rainfall during the 2010/11 season has seen aquifers replenish and has enabled groundwater levels to recover by up to 10 metres in some areas of the WSPA." said Mr Hannan.

Carryover is not available to any licence holders in the Loddon Highlands WSPA for the 2011/12 season due to the 100% allocation.

The Loddon Highlands WSPA extends from Newlyn, Ascot and Learmonth in the south to Maryborough and Dunolly in the north. The eight zones of the Loddon Highlands WSPA are: 1001 Mollongghip, 1002 Blampied, 1003 Forest Hill, 1004 Smeaton, 1005 Remaining Area, 1008 Ascot, 1009 Waubra and 1010 Clunes.
