Loddon Valley Irrigation Area Water Services Committee completes transition for Pyramid-Boort Customer Reference Group

Monday 1 November, 2010

The Board of Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) has confirmed the Pyramid-Boort Customer Reference Group will become the Loddon Valley Irrigation Area Water Services Committee.

This decision marks the completion of the group's transition from an interim Customer Reference Group, but more importantly adopts a committee name that aligns with the Committee's service region.

G-MW Chairman Stephen Mills said the decision to rename the committee as the Loddon Valley Water Services Committee had been at the request of local customers and marked an important milestone.

"The change to the Loddon Valley recognises the achievements of many in the region and is symbolic of the exciting future that includes a vibrant local economy, productive farms and sustainable environment all supported by the modernised G-MW irrigation system," said Mr Mills.

Sue Bennett, the first-ever Chair of the Loddon Valley Irrigation Area Water Services Committee, said the Board's decision marks an important new era for the Committee in the local region.

"This region has a history of developing innovative solutions to sustain the local region, local businesses and improve the local environment. Our region led the way with reconfiguration of the channel network, of increased service point fees to ensure clear signals for customers and we have recognised the need to work in step with the environment to mitigate the impact of salinity on our farming lands," said Ms Bennett.

"My challenge as Chair and our Committee's challenge is to ensure we make the most of all members' experience and knowledge in providing our advice to G-MW and the Board on local services, prices and operations into the future. The MDBA Plan is our first priority and marks the start of an extremely challenging period," said Ms Bennett.

The transition of the Customer Reference Committee to Water Services Committee follows the process outlined by G-MW in late 2009 and follows the June invitation for new members to join the Committee as part of the annual Customer Committee appointment process.

Ms Bennett encouraged anyone keen to learn more about the Committee or possible involvement to contact members of the Committee or can visit the Loddon Water Service Committee web page at www.g-mwater.com.au/loddonwsc
