Have your say on the Waranga Basin Land and On-Water Management Plan

Thursday 23 December, 2010

Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) is developing separate ‘land and on water management plans' for all 16 of its water storages around Victoria that focus on what people value and enjoy about using storages, from picnic tables to boat ramps, water sports to wildlife habitat.

G-MW Acting Managing Director Shane McGrath said these Land and On-Water Management Plans will guide how G-MW and other agencies manage activities, facilities and development on and around the storages.

"Management Plans have already been completed for Lake Hume, Lake Mulwala and Lake Nillahcootie and now a plan for Waranga Basin is underway and we invite you to share your thoughts and experiences with us," Mr McGrath said.

"The Waranga Basin Land and On-Water Management Plan will be a critical document, guided by a long term vision with some key actions around managing activities, facilities and development," Mr McGrath said.

"Basin users, community members, local government and other partner agencies will establish a vision for the future of Waranga Basin based on community and user values and the identification of areas for improvement," Mr McGrath said.

Members of the community can get involved by completing a survey, found in local stores in Rushworth (including the bakery, Post Office, Library, Medical Centre and Rural Transaction Centre) or by completing the survey on-line, from Christmas Day, at www.g-mwater.com.au/warangabasin.

"We've already started to receive feedback from surveys which is very encouraging," Mr McGrath said.

"Community involvement and ownership of the plan is integral to its success, and we encourage anyone with an interest in Waranga Basin to have their say by completing a survey form before 31 January 2011," said Mr McGrath.
