Goulburn-Murray Water advises all boat operators, water skiers and operators of personal watercraft following recent good inflows into Lake Eppalock the 5 knot blanket speed restriction has been lifted and normal vessel zoning and state rules now apply.
G-MW Land and On Water Manager David Jackson said the blanket 5 knot Vessel Operational Zoning rule for Lake Eppalock was initially implemented due to the ongoing drought conditions and the record low levels on the lake to ensure boat operator safety.
"A speed restriction was required to protect the safety of water users from submerged tree stump hazards and shallow water which make conditions hazardous for boating activities," Mr Jackson said.
The lake level has now risen above 180 metres Australian Height Datum (AHD) level and is rising, enabling the removal of the five-knot speed restriction.
These boat restrictions are in line with the requirements of the Marine Act 1988 and the Vessel Operating and Zoning Rules for Victorian Waters.
"G-MW recommends that boat operators make themselves familiar with local conditions and boating safety signage and information at launching areas prior to boating on Lake Eppalock," Mr Jackson said.
The 5 knot boating restriction is enforced when storage levels drop to 179.999 metres AHD as indicated by the head gauge on the Tower Bay Outlet Tower.
"Goulburn-Murray Water greatly appreciates the cooperation of the boating public over recent months," he said.
