Goulburn-Murray Water advises all boat operators, water skiers and operators of personal watercraft following good recent inflows into Cairn Curran the 5 know speed restriction has been lifted and normal boating vessel zoning and state rules now apply.
G-MW Managing Director David Stewart said the Boating Zoning rules for Cairn Curran Reservoir were initially introduced due to ongoing drought conditions and the record low levels on the lake to ensure boat operator safety.
"A speed restriction was required to protect the safety of water users from submerged tree stump hazards and shallow water which make conditions hazardous for boating activities," Mr Stewart said.
Cairn Curran Reservoir has now risen above 200 metres AHD (metres above sea level) level and is continuing to rise, enabling the removal of the level 2 restrictions, which limited normal boating operations to the open waters known as Tower Bay.
These boat restrictions are in line with the requirements of the Marine Act 1988 and the Vessel Operating and Zoning Rules for Victorian Waters.
"G-MW recommends that boat operators make themselves familiar with local conditions and boating -safety signage and information at launching areas prior to boating on Cairn Curran Reservoir," Mr Stewart said.
"Boat operators should also be aware that logs and debris may be present on the storage following recent high inflows to the storage," Mr Stewart said.
"Goulburn-Murray Water greatly appreciates the cooperation of the boating public over recent years," he said.
