G-MW begins research project to inform future irrigation service needs

Monday 2 August, 2010

Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) customers are invited to share their future expectations and plans for irrigation services with G-MW as part of a research project that begins this week and will continue over the next month.

"In recent years we have seen tremendous shift in how our irrigation customers own and use their water resources. This research will help us understand what customers are considering as they look to the next 5 years and beyond, and we will use these findings to inform and improve our business planning and future service delivery," said G-MW Chief Operating Officer, Ian Moorhouse.

Approximately 500 irrigation customers selected at random from G-MW's customer base will be contacted and asked to complete a 20 minute in-depth interview by telephone. If customers are contacted at an inconvenient time and wish to participate, they can propose a more convenient time to undertake the research.

"Drought, climate change, commodity outlooks as well as key policy developments such as the Murray Darling Basin Plan are shaping the views and thinking of our customers. This research will provide indications directly from customers and will feed into the discussions we will continue to have with customers and our customer committees," said Mr Moorhouse.

The survey will be conducted by an accredited market research agency. All information collected during the phone interviews will be treated as strictly confidential. Interviewers abide by the National Privacy Principles and information provided will only be used to improve services, with names and individual details of participants remaining confidential.

Customers who were recently contacted as part of G-MW's annual customer satisfaction survey are also eligible to participate in this subsequent research survey.

"This research is important to our efforts to modernise our business and the services we will deliver in the future. The views of all customers are relevant and for this reason we have not excluded customers who completed our earlier survey," said Mr Moorhouse.

Customers who would like more information about this research should contact Linda Nieuwenhuizen at Goulburn-Murray Water on 03 5833 5776.
