G-MW will publish advertisements from next week advising of its intention to unite the Campaspe Irrigation District with the larger Goulburn-Murray Irrigation District (GMID).
Uniting the two Districts will enable completion of NVIRP's program to decommission the current Campaspe Irrigation District and allows a number of existing Campaspe District irrigators to move to alternative supply arrangements sourced from the Goulburn system.
G-MW Managing Director David Stewart explained that as System Manager under the Water Act 1989 G-MW is required to advertise the intended change. Customers moving to the Goulburn system will need Rochester Area delivery shares and Goulburn System water shares and NVIRP is working with customers to assist this process.
"Uniting the Campaspe Irrigation District with the GMID will have no impact on existing GMID customer's entitlements, reliability, allocations, service and pricing within the current Water Plan," said Mr Stewart.
The GMID includes the six G-MW Irrigation Areas serviced by the Goulburn and Murray rivers.
"Over the next 3 weeks customers will see newspaper advertisements announcing the intent to unite the Campaspe Irrigation District with the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District. A resolution will then be put to the G-MW Board in October," Mr Stewart said.
Campaspe customers have received regular information from both G-MW and NVIRP providing project information and details about the proposal to unite the two Districts, and eventual closure of the Campaspe Irrigation District.
NVIRP Executive Manager of Modernisation David Kent said, "We recently announced the timelines for decommissioning assets in the Campaspe Irrigation District and the uniting of the two Districts will enable customers connecting to the Goulburn system to undertake works and purchase the necessary water shares for their properties."
G-MW expects to complete the unity of the two Districts by October 2010 with NVIRP finalising the broader decommissioning processes in stages over the 2010/11 season.
