Further Information
Goulburn-Murray
Water (G‑MW), the resource manager for northern Victorian water systems, today announced
increased allocations in the Murray, Goulburn,
Broken and Bullarook systems. Allocations in the Campaspe and Loddon systems
remained at zero.
The seasonal allocation in the Murray system
increased by 3% of high-reliability water shares (HRWS) to be 66% HRWS. The
Goulburn system received a 2% HRWS increase and is now 60% HRWS. The Broken
system also received a 2% HRWS increase to be 6% HRWS. The Bullarook system
seasonal allocation is 15%, which is an increase of 4% HRWS.
"The increases
announced today are the result of some rainfall and relatively mild weather
conditions for February," said Graeme Hannan, G-MW's Resource Manager. "There
have been small inflows to the storages, but the generally moderate temperatures
of recent days means less water has been lost to evaporation and system
operating needs. This saved water has been converted into allocation."
Mr Hannan
confirmed that savings had also occurred in the two systems without allocation.
"The Campaspe and Loddon systems still have a shortfall to allocation," said Mr
Hannan. "The small savings in these systems were not enough to close the
deficit."
The next
allocation announcement will be issued on Monday 15 March 2010.
