16 June 2009 - Last date for water allocation trade for 2008/09

Thursday 4 June, 2009

Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) reminds customers who would like to trade water within Victoria in the 2008/09 season that applications need to be submitted no later than Tuesday 16 June, 2009.

G-MW Water Administration Manager Ruth McGrath said late season trades gave customers the opportunity to buy water to carry over into the 2009/10 irrigation season; buy water to cover overuse or sell water in their Allocation Bank Account (ABA) in excess of the 50% carryover limit.

"With carryover limits increased from 30% to 50% of your high and low reliability water shares irrigators can opt to buy water to carryover or sell water in excess of their carryover limits," Ms McGrath said.

"Customers who may have inadvertently used more than their allocation can also purchase water to cover this usage to avoid the overuse fee of $2,000 per megalitre,"

Applications should be submitted no later than Tuesday 16 June 2009 for trades within Victoria.

"Applications received after these dates will still be processed but may not be finalised in the current season,"

Customers can access Fact Sheets and Customer Checklists on issues such as Carryover, Water Trading and the 2009/10 Ballot for applications to transfer water shares out of irrigation areas from G-MW's website at http://www.g-mwwater.com.au/

"G-MW staff can provide some guidance but they cannot advise customers on what's best for their individual circumstances.  Customers are encouraged to seek further advice from professional advisers to ensure they are fully informed before making decisions for their business,"
