G-MW issues new look accounts
Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) has responded to customer feedback and developed an easier to read account statement.
Manager Water Administration Ruth McGrath said some customers had indicated the statements were difficult to read.
"We have taken their feedback on board and this year they will receive a new style statement," said Ms McGrath.
G-MW began issuing the annual Water Services Fixed Charges accounts this week to its more than 25,000 surface and groundwater irrigation customers across the region. At this stage G-MW is not issuing accounts to fire affected customers.
"Our water using customers own their water entitlements, so the fixed charges account represents the costs associated with operating and maintaining the delivery network or in managing access to available resources on unregulated systems. The length of channel to be maintained doesn't reduce during drought and in fact the amount of time needed to manage access to limited water resources actually increases so many of the costs we incur do not vary in line with the volume of water delivered," said Ms McGrath.
G-MW is keenly aware that many customers are experiencing extreme hardship. Customers (excluding Loch Garry) can receive a 2% discount on their account if they pay in full by 16 October or they can wait until 16 December to pay in full without a discount. Customers can also opt to make payments in four equal instalments between 16 October 2009 and 16 February 2010. The full range of payment options is detailed in a brochure that accompanies the accounts.
"We ask customers experiencing hardship to call G-MW to discuss the range of assistance that may be available to them," said Ms McGrath.
Ms McGrath said the accounts were going out earlier than was the case for the last two seasons, but is consistent with the normal billing cycle.
