Water Quality Monitoring
Major Storages Operational Monitoring Program (MSOMP)
Physico-chemical parameters such as nutrients, pH and electrical conductivity within Goulburn-Murray Water’s major storages are monitored under the Major Storages Operational Monitoring Program (MSOMP).
Victorian Water Quality Monitoring Network (VWQMN)
A large portion of rivers and streams are monitored under the Victorian Water Quality Monitoring Network (VWQMN), the Murray-Darling Basin Commission (MDBC) monitoring program, the irrigation and salinity monitoring programs, and the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) fixed site network. Monitoring is conducted by a number of organisations and the flow and water quality parameters measured at each of the monitoring sites are regularly documented.
Monitoring and analysis of data trends over time is carried out as a way of identifying any issues within our waterways and drains and monitoring changes in parameters over time.
For further information on the VWQMN please visit www.vicwaterdata.net
Irrigation Drains
Physico-chemical parameters such as nutrients, pH, turbidity and electrical conductivity are regularly monitored within major G-MW surface drains. Analysis of trends over time is carried out to assess progress to reduce drain impacts.
Access to Data
Data from the Major Storages and Irrigation Drain Monitoring Progress isaccessible from the Victorian Water Resources Data Warehouse for 2005 onwards www.vicwaterdata.net . For earlier information contact G-MW on (03) 5833 5763
Groundwater Database
Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has compiled a database of information in relation to groundwater levels and quality, using information obtained through bore construction, licensing and monitoring. This information generally includes water level and salinity, however in some instances includes chemistry parameters if analysis has been carried out.
Further information regarding this database can be sought by contacting the DPI on 136 186 or Goulburn-Murray Water Diversion Services (03) 5833 5500.
