Environmental Management System
What's it all about?
As concern grows for continually improving the quality of the environment, organisations are increasingly tuning their attention into the environmental impacts of their activities. The environmental performance of an organisation is of importance to both internal and external stakeholders. An Environmental Management System (EMS) provides a systematic management approach to review and improve operations for better environmental performance. It helps company’s better meet legal requirements and is designed to integrate the management of environmental risks into daily business practices. Achieving sound environmental performance requires organisational commitment to a systematic approach and to continual improvement of an EMS.
Goulburn Murray Water has implemented an EMS that is externally certified to the International Standard AS/NZS ISO14001:2004. The EMS supports G-MW’s Environment Policy Statement and provides the framework and tools for employees to manage environmental risks, meet legal and other obligations, improve business performance and strengthen relationships with customers. Annual surveillance audits ensure that the organisation maintains its commitment and certification.
