The Environment

Operating water systems over two-thirds of Northern Victoria directly links Goulburn Murray Water (G-MW) to the environment. Water, air, flora, fauna, other natural resources, humans and their interrelation form G-MW’s environment. As a result G-MW has substantial interaction with the environment, partnerships with a number of stakeholders and legislative requirements leading to a large and diverse environmental risk profile.  G-MW aims to maximise water resource availability for customer use, while meeting key environmental goals and contributing to a sustainable and productive natural environment.  G-MW’s environmental objectives are listed in the Environment Policy Statement.  In summary G-MW is committed to minimising and preventing any adverse impact on the environment caused by our activities.

Activities and initiatives include Catchment Management (including salt interception management), surface and sub-surface drainage support, water quality (including Blue –Green Algae monitoring ) and land management planning.  The Environmental Management System implementation is one of the many tools developed and implemented through G-MW.

2011 Photography competition

Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) launched its annual photography competition to coincide with World Environment Day, celebrated on 5 June 2011.

The theme for this year's competition was "Forests: Nature at your service" to align with World Environment Day which is part of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and recognises the value of forests in the life cycle of water. According to UNEP, forests cover one third of the earth's land mass and perform vital functions like feeding our rivers and water storages and are essential to supplying water for urban and rural communities.
