Our recruitment process

The Goulburn-Murray Water recruitment process is designed to give you the best opportunity to express your suitability for the vacant positions that are advertised.

Stage One

Application

Apply using the Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) Application Form.  For each position advertised there will be attached an application form for completion.

The G-MW application form must be completed accurately with all parts completed in full.  If you require additional space or would like to attach your CV please forward this along with your application to our recruitment department.  It is important to provide all the details required at this stage.   This includes section B of the application which requires you to addresses your skills and experience relevant to the Key Selection Criteria.

Acknowledgment of application

When you apply for a job with G-MW, you can expect to receive a confirmation email or letter that your application has been received.

Stage Two

Review the application

G-MW will review your application and resume (if applicable) and determine a shortlist of applicants.

You will be contacted within three weeks of your initial application. If you are selected to proceed through the selection process you will be contacted and advised of the next stage in the recruitment process. If you are unsuccessful at this stage, you will be notified by email or mail.

Candidates are short listed and invited to attend an interview with relevant company and human resources representatives. Objectives of the interviews are to:

  • enable the interview panel to determine the best person for the vacancy
  • provide the candidate with information about the company
  • check identification of the interviewees that have applied for the relevant position.  Two form of Identification will be required and must be sighted by a G-MW Manager or Human Resource Partner.  This will be used for the 100 point police check validation.
  • on completion of the interview stage, the interview panel will determine the candidate recommended for the position based on meeting the requirements and the Key Selection Criteria.

Unsuccessful candidates will be contacted by phone on the outcome of their interview.

Stage Three

Reference Check

As part of your initial application you will be asked to provide a minimum of three referees.  Reference checks are to confirm the interviewer's assessment of the candidate.  The candidate's permission must be obtained before formal reference checks are carried out. 

The purpose is to confirm factual information about the candidate's previous work history and achievements and to assist in determining suitability within the business.

Stage Four

National Police Check

All recommended applicants that at this stage of the process will be required to undertake a National Police Check.  The cost of such will be paid for by Goulburn-Murray Water. 

Please note that confidentiality is maintained at all times and applicants will be informed of the outcome of the check.  At the interview stage a National Police Check consent for will be issued and if successful will need to be completed and returned to G-MW for processing.

Stage Five

Pre-Employment Medical

We are strongly committed to maintaining a healthy workplace.  Prior to a final selection decision candidates may be required to undergo a pre-employment medical examination. This may also include a functional capacity assessment and a check of prior Workcover claims to ascertain whether you can perform the inherent requirements of the position without endangering, or posing a risk to the health and safety of yourself or others. 

If a medical is required you will be asked to complete a G-MW pre-employment medical form and attend a medical centre nominated by G-MW.  The cost of which will be paid for by G-MW.

Additional Information

Your application must be received by the Human Resources Unit by close of business on the final date for applications as specified in each advertisement.  We can not guarantee that late applications will be accepted.

All applications will be acknowledged, either by email or by post.  You will be notified in due course if you have been selected for an interview.
